SUMMER

Reeflex Groms Kill Wedge!
25th February 2010

On Thursday Perth was greeted by a 3 metre swell that peaked at midday, light straight offshore winds and a temperature in the forties. Many a bloke and grom had managed to score the day off and take advantage of the rare summer conditions making it one busy line up all along the coast.

Mandurah Wedge was no different and the Reeflex grom locals of George & Davis had leave passes as well as pocket rocket Lewy Finnegan who was accompanied by his shadow, Cammy H.

This day was different though as the WA big wigs were all in Hawaii trying to win the Turbo Pipeline Pro making way for the groms to step it up and grab the sets all day long. They all impressed with big inverts and clean lines and here are a few piccies to prove it.

The footage will be on Davis’ Episode 8 creation along with some fresh water angles due to land later this week.

  Teem Reeflex Trippin
13th February 2009

Everyone loves a team trip so when Winny came over for a few days a couple of weeks ago to put the new range to the test we knew it was going to be fun times for all.

Along to capture the moment was photog Will Schouten and Steady Cam Daz a.k.a. Darren McCagh with myself directing all the circus clowns. We had some fun waves and fun times on our short but fruitful trip with young Halsey the highlight sporting his new Prison Break style hairdo and for some reason it turned him into a mad man. I saw the kid do many things that I thought he would never, over and over again. He kept us all entertained as you would expect from the pup of the pack.

As for the said fruit, you will just have to keep an eye on this site, the mags and iTunes for it in the coming months. Until then visit your local stockist to pre order your new suit, now made alongside the big name surf brands by the world’s best manufacturer giving Reeflex quality, value and performance second to none.

  Riptide Reader Poll
10th February 2010

Who was the best bodyboarder in 2009. Tell Riptide!

Vote Winny Number 1 –  Have you seen his miniseries? Even the best bodyboarders in the world voted him top dog.

This year’s Reader Poll is a cinch to fill out, you can save your progress if you have to dash off somewhere and you can vote for who ever you like.

They have tried to make it easier for all our international voters out there by allowing you to type in any name you want – just select “Other” in the drop down menu and type away. Plus if you’re on a slow Internet connection you can save your progress and come back to the survey when you’ve got some more time.

Just a quick tip, your vote will not be counted if you record the same rider in numerous positions.

Voting will close on the 25th of February and the results will be announced in Riptide 175.

Pocket Rocket Launches
5th February 2010

Lewy has had a great start to the month with the signing of new board sponsor Pride. Lewy now has an impressive swag of sponsors for a 15 year old kid with the likes of EBB, Grand Flavour and now Pride (along with us who saw his potential many moons ago) supporting the kid who has shown so much potential for his young age.

The other good fortune for Lewis Andrew Finnegan is his spread in the Life Lessons section of the latest Riptide, issue 174. During the school holidays when the surf has been firing Lewy and fellow EBB team rider/staffer and reigning Pipe Champ Ryan Hardy have hooked up the odd session or two down at wedge with Mike Maxted to capture the moment.

Halsey Rock Hound
3rd February 2010

There comes a time in every bodyboarders life that their dreams of going to Hawaii turn into reality. That is the case for Alex who recently turned 18 last month. The kid’s got a new hair cut to start the year off fresh. Now that he has finished school it is head down and bum up for Halsnetti who is determined on raising his profile and a few eyebrows along the way in 2010 starting on the rock. Early reports from the North Shore of some fun and heavy sessions welcomed him to the island of Oahu.

Wahoooooo Wingnut
25th January 2010

Young Davis is a busy lil grom, traversing the coast for waves, doing local paper advert photo shoots for his shop sponsor Star Surf and winning the Wahu Grom Comp over the weekend in small contestable conditions at Trigg Point. Wingers headed up for the two day event combining surfer and bodyboarder divisions for grommets under 15 with Big Jim a.k.a James Purvis who managed a close second behind Davis.

All of this would not of have been possible without the help and dedication of Davis’ mum Leigh, who in fact films for all his monthly episodes amongst taxiing the boys to their destination of choice in search of waves day in day out. Great job Super Mum!

Summer Lovin’ with Wingers
20th January 2010

Remember when you were 13 going on 14 and it was summer school holidays?? Chasing waves, girls and fun times with the boys without a care in the world. This what Davis has been doing nonstop over his long break. Hanging out with fellow team riders George Humphries and Lewy Finnegan down south with the Brothers Purvis, Tommy & Jimmy. Even around home this young band of next generation shredders has been turning heads with their motions in the ocean as far and wide as Rottnest.

Don’t take my word for it though, check out Episode 7 that Davis has just put together from some of his sessions along the way. Make sure you take note of George’s dang back flip first up and Tokyo Tom’s tight Rotto rev and the air version Mandurah wedge style!

 Crackneck Coleman
6th January 2009

Shoel Coleman is another young fella from the Central Coast who is part of our crew here at Reeflex. Shoel has been a busy boy lately, with competing at the recent Raw Nationals and his first Pro Junior comp in Newcastle which he placed 13th. Shoel will now tackle the remaining two events of the three part series with fellow crew member and mate  Blake Taylor.  Shoel sent us through this bulldang photo of him out at his local break Crackneck  taken by Marcus Donsworth. “ We just went out for a surf at my local reef Crackneck, it was just an average day but super crowded, then after about an hour it went flat so everyone went in except me and a few of the older crew and it just started pulsing for about 2 hours so I scored so many good waves that day with Marcus sitting on the end bowl shooting.”  So there you have it folks, sometimes it does pay to hang in there as they say good fortune comes to those who wait!

New Riptide Peer Poll Winny-er
1st December 2009
2009 Peer Poll Winny-er                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                If your onto things in the Bodyboarding world then you may have already heard that our main man and current World # 2 Dave Winchester is the new Riptide Peer Poll winner for 2009. Apart from contest glory this award is one of the most highly respected in the industry as it is voted only by the peers of the sport.  Winny becomes only the 5th person in the history of the award to have taken it out and now joins the likes of Mike Stewart, Ryan Hardy, Mitch Rawlins & Ben Player as winners of the award.
Make sure you check out the Riptide site for how the news was broken to all the fellas who are currently in Gran Canaria for the final event of the IBA World Tour of which you can check out all the latest information here as the comp starts this week to determine the new World Champion. If you need more evidence then head over to Winny’s twitter or wait til Riptide hits the stands next week!

South Coast Bee Tee
29th December 2009

Here at Reeflex we help a lot of up and coming riders by giving them a minor sponsorship deal as we all have to start somewhere. Young Blake Taylor from the NSW south coast is one of those riders, seen here ripping a rev of the lip in his first pro junior comp.
Blake hooked up with Nick Hartcher to capture a few framies from a session out at his local a while back which is great to see what our young up and comers are up to.

A friendly and happy chappie, I had the pleasure of meeting Blake at this year’s Raw Nationals in QLD. Blake is now following the Raw Pro Junior Series which is a 3 part series for young bodyboarders to compete against each other and each winner receives a free trip to Hawaii to see the IBA Turbo Pipeline Pro, I wish they had comps with prizes like that back in the day!!

Blake hit the first comp in Newcastle and managed a 10th place which is pretty good considering he is only 15 years old and the age limit is under 21. The next stop is North Avoca on the 10th January and then off to Cronulla a week later on the 17th. Entry forms are available to down load on the IBA Australasia website so don’t delay as it is only a one day comp with limited places.

 leBoogie issue 2
20th December 2009

It’s that time of year when there are so many things to think of that will fill your Christmas wish list and stockings kids. Well I am not a kid anymore but after purchasing leBoogie # 2 online and having it show up in the post box, that is as close as it gets to having a stocking let me tell you. Even better when the dapper T Shirt rolled up days earlier too!  It felt like it was Christmas day and I had just received something from my wish list. What was even more merrier was the fact that after perusing its many pages for what seemed like hours I had come to the conclusion that this could very well be the best bit of  boogie literature I had ever laid my eyes and hands on.  That’s a big call you say but I have been around since Riptide was born and have collected everyone of their photo annuals  and that’s right they are annuals! this is a quarterly publication folks, this is to be remembered. So to Phil Gallagher and his Merry Men behind the lenses, well done fellas you have made my Christmas! Also my Triton ute would like to say thanks Chris Gurney for working the ladder angles for his first DPS on the intro page. Lucky it was reversed in otherwise it would be hitting me up for photo incentives due to the Reeflex sticker on the back!

If you have not laid eyes on leBoogie # 2 then watch our man Chaddy J work the beats on the preview promo and if this does not convince you then nothing will!
